瑜珈過度被吹捧的五大理由
Posted @withregram • @functionalpatterns
TOP 5 REASONS WHY YOGA IS OVERRATED
1. People think increased flexibility is the solution to pain
When people deal with pain they think increasing a joints range of motion is what’s going to fix it. While it may seem to work in the short term, in the long term you have to create more and more flexibility to get the same level of pain relief you once did. Over time this is what creates joint instability in the body.
2. The static positions don’t relate to how humans move
How much easier is it to balance on a bike when it’s moving forward in space, compared to when it’s still?
The positions held in yoga are done statically without any forward motion. So when we look at what true stability is in the body, the motion we create when we move is the stability.
3.Its been around for thousands of years
Just because something has been around for a long time doesn’t mean we should keep doing it. Otherwise we would still be using a horse and cart to commute. With the physical practice of yoga, it’s not something that was designed to help the average Joe or Jane become elite level movers.
4. It’s detached from human evolution
When you look at how muscles evolved in the body, it’s clear that they adapted to perform specific functions. When it comes to yoga, it never intended to turn average Joes or Janes into elite level athletes.
So the practice itself doesn’t relate to this evolutionary blueprint and is void of that logic.
5. Intent and utility
It’s great that people who do yoga aim to enhance themselves and the lives of their students. The concerns we have always come back to the technicalities of the practice. If the technical nature of the exercises don’t relate to functionality, then we should question why we’re doing them in the first place.
