When you stretch in the way that everyone teaches on social media, it overly lengthens your muscle tissues and creates too much ligament laxity.
While muscle tissues can be retonified if they’ve been over stretched using precise movement exercises, you’re in for a problem when it comes to your ligaments. Since they’re dry and tricky to shorten once they’ve been overly lengthened. This right here is a huge problem fitness contrapreneues and influencers keep avoiding. The weak muscles and joint instability that comes from taking these approaches is clearly something they don’t have a solution for.
Keep in mind it’s not that we are against stretching, although there’s a difference between passive flexibility and functional flexibility. When you move around in real-life, functional flexibility is what’s needed to move and function well. It works on the principal of reciprocal inhibition. Which means that contractions of entire chain of muscles are what drive other chains of muscles in the body to lengthen, creating functional flexibility.
Physics matters when it comes to addressing pain in the body. And you can’t stretch your way out of moving poorly. Fundamentally people stretch because they think it’s going to create balance in the body, although it’s making people increasingly more imbalanced as time goes on. Creating fundamental balance in the body comes down to aligning your training with the physics of the FP First 4 > Standing, Running, Walking and Throwing.
Don’t sacrifice your joints for fake flexibility. Move correctly as it relates to the FP First 4 and not only do you increase the probability of you getting and staying out of pain, but joint stability and functional flexibility become an automatic in the body.
